Lilli Naulu was born in Sydney, and is a graduate of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, graduating with her Bachelor of Music majoring in piano performance in 1998. She studied piano at the conservatorium with Stephanie McCallum as well as piano accompaniment with David Miller. In her final year of study she was awarded the Mollie Neale Memorial Award for her excellence in piano accompaniment.
A highlight of Lilli's career was when she performed for His Royal Majesty King Taufahau V of Tonga, during one of his visits to Sydney in 1997. In 2005, she was employed as Lecturer in Accompaniment at the ANU school of music in Canberra
Lilli also graduated from the University of Canberra with a Graduate Diploma in Education specialising in music education. Upon completing her teaching degree she returned to the Central Coast to commence her employment as secondary music teacher, and has since taught at various high schools in both Sydney and the Central Coast. Some of these have included Willoughby High School, The Hills Grammar School as well as Wyong and Gosford High School.
